The JNPT administration is building a 19 km concrete road in the JNPT customs-bound area to improve traffic flow. The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 210 crore. Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, performed the project's Bhoomi poojan ceremony on Saturday. Sonowal visited JNPT for the inauguration of a Medical Oxygen Plant at the hospital, as well as a visit to JNPT's Gateway Terminal of India (GTI) to learn more about India's premier container handling port. JNPT chairman Sanjay Seth said that Neeraj Cement Structurals Limited was awarded the tender for a Rs 210 crore concrete road construction project in the 19 km customs-bound area. According to the tender clause, the contractor must complete the project in 24 months. Sanjay Sethi, chairman of the JNPT, showed the Minister around the port and briefed him on its operations, infrastructure, and technological advancements. Sonowal conducted a review of JNPT's public-private partnerships after meeting with the organization's key stakeholders. Sonowal said during a Q&A session with the media that while the medical oxygen generation plant at JNPT hospital will benefit a large portion of the city's population, the Rs 210 crore concrete road project by JNPT will improve road connectivity, which will be critical for the trading sector. Minister Sonowal told the media that importers and exporters will benefit from the well-equipped facilities at JNPT by prioritising rail, road, waterways, and airways connectivity. By 2030, JNPT will have established itself as a mega port thanks to consistent technological advancements and multimodal infrastructure development. JNPT administration, according to Sonowal, has made coordinated and integrated efforts to provide quality container freight services. The Special Economic Zone's (SEZ) plan to build 29 processing units is a good example to follow. When inquired about JNPT's Project Affected Persons (PAPs), who are owed 12.5% compensation, relief, and rehabilitation as a result of their land acquisition, JNPT chairman Sanjay Sethi said the company had paid Cidco for infrastructure development and for the land it had acquired from local villagers.
