The poorly lit Kakkalur-Aranvoyal Kuppam road has been causing discomfort to the two-wheeler riders due to its damaged state and the increased movement of heavy vehicles, owing to the recently constructed railway bridge.

According to K Raghavendra Bhat, a resident of Kakkalur, the construction of a railway bridge on Kakkalur-Aranvoyal Kuppam was completed five months ago, yet the bridge has not been officially inaugurated. However, motorists have been using the bridge to avoid a detour of 7 kilometres.

Although lights are provided on the bridge and the road widens where the bridge ends on the Aranvoyal Kuppam side, the road narrows down after a few hundred meters. The entire stretch of the road has been severely damaged by the heavy vehicles, he mentioned. Previously, there was a railway gate to cross the track, and during the construction works, motorists were inconvenienced by being forced to drive an additional 7 kilometres.

Raghavendra Bhat added that the bridge connects Avadi to Thirumazhisai and Sriperumbudur, leading to frequent use of the road by heavy vehicles. There is insufficient space and lighting even for two-wheelers to safely navigate past the heavy vehicles.

The movement of vehicles to Kakkalur industrial estate further exacerbates the situation, he pointed out. He urged the authorities to install adequate lighting on the road and repair it. Bhat emphasised that the bridge should be officially opened so that necessary rectification works can be carried out. In response to inquiries, an official assured that measures would be taken to install lights and repair the damaged road connecting Aranvoyal Kuppam and Kakkalur.
