Karnataka plans 600 km Economic Corridor linking Bengaluru to North

The Karnataka Government has announced plans to develop a new economic corridor aimed at improving connectivity between Bengaluru and Kalyana Karnataka. This corridor is set to include areas like Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal, Ballari, and Vijayanagara.

The project will be led by the Public Works Department (PWD) and funded by the Kalyana Karnataka Regional Development Board (KKRDB). The planned greenfield expressway will span approximately 600 kilometres, with the goal of improving travel efficiency and transport between Bengaluru and Bidar. The corridor is expected to provide a faster and safer route for both goods and passengers, linking key industrial zones, district headquarters, and financial centres.

In addition, the PWD has released a tender to hire a consultant for conducting a pre-feasibility study. The study will identify the optimal route, number of lanes, land acquisition requirements, and the potential benefits. It will also analyse current routes, traffic data, and future growth prospects to ensure the corridor's economic and technical feasibility. This project represents PWD鈥檚 first foray into constructing a greenfield expressway.
