MMRDA: December 25 deadline unattainable for MTHL

BJP announced through a social media post that the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link would be opened for public use on December 25. However, officials of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) expressed surprise over the claim, stating that several components of the project, necessary for the stretch to be pliable, are yet to be completed. They mentioned that meeting the December 25 deadline would be difficult.

MMRDA officials mentioned that while the deck work is mostly complete, package 4 of the project, which involves the establishment of intelligent transport systems (ITS), including toll and transport management systems, and the installation of equipment for the project, are yet to be completed. They expressed doubt that the project would meet the December 25 deadline, noting that the tender for setting up these systems was only awarded in April of this year.

Additionally, work on the deck, which includes tasks such as asphalting and waterproofing, is still pending. Officials acknowledged that it could be finished in the next few days. A senior MMRDA official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, "While we are in a position to complete the civil work by December, the tech systems vital for the project will take time to be put in place."
