Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) has entered a deal to construct two flyovers and a railway underbridge in the Yelahanka assembly constituency for Rs 260 crore. The first flyover, 1.8 km long, will launch on Doddaballapura Road and connect four busy traffic intersections. The second flyover will be constructed in Yelahanka old town. The railway underbridge will connect Doddaballapur Road. On Saturday, Yelahanka MLA S R Vishwanath laid the foundation stone for the projects and expected that they would be achieved in 18 months. The flyovers and the bridge were being made as traffic had increased exponentially in and around Yelahanka as it was closer to the airport. Noting that the projects had been developed to fulfil the traffic demands of the following 50 years, he hoped they would eradicate all significant traffic signals. Once completed, the 1.8-km flyover would provide vehicle users signal-free passage since it would seamlessly connect four traffic junctions: Yelahanka police station, NES Circle, Seshadripuram First Grade College junction and Sandeep Unnikrishnan Circle. The flyover would have four lanes, a down ramp near the college and an up ramp near the police station. No land will have to be procured although three trees may have to be axed, authorities said. The BBMP had proposed to construct a small flyover near the police station but later chose to expand it and connect four traffic junctions after the government promised additional funds. The project will cost about Rs 175 crore. The second flyover, to be constructed on the old National Highway 7 from the post office to Kogilu Cross through Kempegowda Circle in the commercial hub of Yelahanka old town, would be worth Rs 70 crore. The underbridge will connect the Yelahanka train station to Doddaballapura Road and Yelahanka New Town. It will be worth Rs 15 crore. The work has commenced. Image Source
