New Flyover to Ease Traffic on Hyderabad鈥檚 Busiest Road

To improve urban connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will undertake the construction of a two-lane unidirectional flyover at NFCL Junction in Banjara Hills, along with a two-lane unidirectional underpass and a three-lane unidirectional flyover at TV9 Junction, as part of the state government鈥檚 prestigious Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) programme.
The NFCL Junction flyover will be a two-lane unidirectional structure extending from Banjara Hills Road No. 3 towards GVK Mall. It is planned to have a total width of 8.5 meters, including 0.5-meter-wide crash barriers on either side, and a 7.5-meter-wide carriageway. The design includes a viaduct with the necessary span to allow traffic to flow beneath the flyover, supported by reinforced earth wall approaches.
The underpass at TV9 Junction is designed as a two-lane underpass running from NFCL Junction towards Srinagar Colony. It will have an overall width of 10 meters (outer to outer), a carriageway width of 7.5 meters, and 0.75-meter-wide footpath/drainage-cum-utility ducts on both sides. The structure will feature retaining wall approaches and an underground sump with a capacity of 200,000 liters to manage water drainage for the underpass.
The three-lane unidirectional flyover from Mugdha Junction to NFCL Junction on Banjara Hills Road No. 3 will be 12 meters wide in total, with 0.5-meter crash barriers on either side and an 11-meter carriageway. This flyover will also include a viaduct with the necessary span to accommodate traffic beneath it and reinforced earth wall approaches.
These infrastructure works, estimated to cost approximately Rs 3.68 billion, form part of the larger H-CITI project. The state government has approved administrative sanctions totaling Rs 59.42 billion for the entire H-CITI programme and has authorized GHMC to invite tenders for 23 projects encompassing 32 works, divided into five packages, as per an official order dated December 5, 2024.
In line with this, GHMC has called for proposals from agencies for the design and construction of the two flyovers and one underpass. The scope of work encompasses investigation, surveying, detailed engineering design, and execution of the projects on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC)/turnkey basis, including a one-year defect liability period.
GHMC officials explained that the multilevel steel flyovers and grade separators at NFCL Junction and TV9 Junction would be built with standard viaducts and obligatory spans. Additional features include crash barriers, approach slabs, pier protection measures, and anti-carbonation painting on all exposed concrete surfaces to ensure durability and safety.
