Dhananjay Deshpande, the Executive Engineer at the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), expressed the commitment to ensure the swift and timely completion of the flyover project. He noted that initial construction phases often require considerable time, while later phases progress at a faster pace. Currently, the pillar construction phase is finished, and the girder work is underway at Katraj Ghat. Consequently, the flyover project is expected to meet its completion deadline. The decision to construct the flyover at Katraj Chowk was made in order to permanently resolve the traffic congestion issue. The groundbreaking ceremony for this project, marked by Bhumi Poojan, occurred on September 24, 2021, and NHAI is overseeing its construction. Once completed, the flyover will provide a direct route from Wonder City to Rajas Society for traffic traveling from Ranwale Bridge to Kondhwa, bypassing Katraj Chowk. By diverting traffic over the bridge, congestion around the PMPML bus stand, Katraj Mandai, Satara Road, and Wonder City will be significantly reduced. This will effectively address the traffic problems in Katraj and Rajas Chowk, alleviating inconvenience for commuters. Adequate space for PMPML bus stands will also ensure a hassle-free experience for passengers. Notably, this bridge passes through Rajiv Gandhi Zoo, and the central government has allocated a budget of Rs 1.69 billion and 15 lakhs for its construction. With the bridge comprising six tiers and spanning a length of 1,326 meters, citizens are urging NHAI to expedite the project to bring relief from traffic congestion in the area.
