NHAI gets green light for six-lane highway in Delhi

Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Delhi Vinai Kumar Saxena on Wednesday approved the transfer of land from the Irrigation and Flood Control Department of Delhi to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), clearing the way for the construction of a six-lane highway from DND Maharani Bagh to Jaitpur-Pusta Road Section of NH-148NA.

The six-lane highway is part of the Centre's ambitious Bharatmala project and is expected to ease traffic on the crucial stretches between Delhi, Faridabad and Noida.

The NHAI had requested the transfer of land in January this year. The approval was granted on condition that the NHAI would use inert construction and demolition waste generated in Delhi at the location of its construction and beyond, in addition to making the required payment for the land.

In a separate move, the L-G also approved the transfer of 4,235 square metres of land owned by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department of Delhi for the construction of a power substation at Nawada village in Uttam Nagar.
