The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has implemented a significant measure to address unruly behaviour by commuters at toll plazas. In response to incidents of misconduct and disputes between toll booth staff and commuters, NHAI has mandated that toll plaza supervisors wear body cameras while on duty. This initiative aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and security at toll plazas across the country. The move comes alongside the release of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) by NHAI to guide toll booth personnel in dealing with challenging situations involving commuters. The SOP provides a structured approach to handling disputes, minimizing conflicts, and ensuring the smooth flow of traffic at these crucial points on India's highways. By requiring body cameras for supervisors and implementing the SOP, NHAI intends to deter unruly behaviour, protect the interests of both commuters and toll booth staff, and maintain the efficient operation of toll plazas.
