The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) extended the deadline for completing road repair and reinstatement work from June 1 to June 7, as several departments had failed to meet the original target. Despite an earlier directive to finish all digging and road-related activities before the monsoon season, many parts of the city remained under excavation.This extension was decided after a review meeting held on Monday, chaired by PMC additional commissioner Omprakash Diwate, with heads of the road, drainage, water supply, and electrical departments in attendance.Diwate explained that the early arrival of the monsoon this year had caused delays in work at many locations. He added that while several projects were nearing completion, agencies were now required to finish the remaining work without further delays. He warned that contractors would not be paid if roads were not properly reinstated.Originally, the civic body had set June 1 as the final date for all road excavation, pipeline laying, and related work. However, a report by Hindustan Times on Monday pointed out that road digging continued beyond this deadline in several areas such as Baner, Kothrud, Yerawada, and Hadapsar, causing traffic disruptions and safety hazards during rainfall.Diwate instructed each department to submit status reports and ensure that road reinstatement was completed by June 7 without fail. Officials were also directed to closely monitor progress on the ground and take action against contractors responsible for delays or poor-quality work.
