Abhishek Banerjee, national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), and member of
parliament for Diamond Harbour, lay the foundation stone for the development and renovation of
the Budge Budge Trunk Road, which will aim to relieve seven lakh residents in three Assembly
constituencies. Abhishek, who virtually laid the project's foundation stone, stated that it is a
significant day for the residents of South 24-Parganas. He emphasised that the Public Works
Department (PWD) is in charge of carrying out the project. The project's overall cost, which includes
developing and repairing the 7-km-long road, is Rs 500 million.
When it is finished, approximately 7 lakh people from three constituencies, Maheshtala, Budge
Budge, and Metiabruz will benefit. He emphasised that the road in Budge Budge will be two lanes
and five and a half metres wide from Jinjira Bazar to Bata Morh. Abhishek explained how this project
came to be by stating that he had made a pledge to the community that the Budge Budge Trunk
Road construction would start as soon as he arrived to open the Chorial Bridge a month prior.
He claimed that when he visited Maheshtala to dedicate the Sampriti Flyover, individuals who live
below the bridge informed him that while the bridge will primarily assist those who live near Budge
Budge or Pujali, the Budge Budge Trunk Road is a lifeline for inhabitants on the Mahestala side. The
road requires extensive repairs, according to the locals. He emphasised that ever since, he had
worked hard to get the road temporarily fixed with the help of all relevant departments, but that he
had recently realised it needed a permanent fix.
Abhishek then raised the issue with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, requesting long-term
construction and repair work. "I had pleaded with people to trust me. I am obligated to serve the
people in my capacity as the Diamond Harbour MP, regardless of anyone's political inclinations鈥, he
stated. He told the populace that, despite the possibility of some delay due to the monsoon, he
would personally oversee the work's progress and see to it that it was finished as soon as possible.
