The state public works department (PWD) national highway division has taken action to address the issue of defective concrete panels on Wardha Road. The PWD contractor, Drishti Constructions, has initiated the process of cutting and removing the faulty panels between the Airport Cargo T-point and Airport South Metro Rail Station, intending to replace them with new ones. It is worth noting that there are still several more defective panels awaiting identification along the remaining stretch of national highways in the city.A PWD engineer informed that 10 panels on this particular stretch would be replaced after conducting the necessary technical procedures. Upon inspection, it was discovered that these panels were defective and required immediate replacement.A few months ago, the PWD contractor had laid concrete panels on the stretch between the Airport Metro Rail Station and Chinchbhuvan railway over bridge (RoB). Unfortunately, the majority of these panels on both sides of the road turned out to be defective. They displayed wide vertical and horizontal cracks, as well as potholes. Additionally, patches of the cement concrete panels had subsided at certain locations, resulting in an uneven road surface and causing discomfort to commuters due to sudden jolts.
