RailTel bags Rs 210.7 crore contract for Banihal tunnel section

RailTel has been awarded a Rs 210.7 crore contract to install an integrated tunnel communication system in the Dharam-Banihal section of the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) rail link project.
According to RailTel's statement, the contract will include work on the design, supply, testing, and commissioning of the tunnel communication system, which will include emergency call and service telephones, CCTV, tunnel radio, and public announcement system in a tunnel environment.
RailTel was awarded the contract by IRCON International Limited, another PSU under the Ministry of Railways.
The railway line in the Dharam-Banihal section of the rail link project is being built by IRCON.
The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link (USBRL) project in Jammu and Kashmir is a 272 km railway line that is being built as a national project.
The sections between Jammu and Katra, as well as Banihal and Baramulla, have been completed and are now operational.
The remaining track from Katra to Banihal is being built and is expected to be completed next year, according to RailTel.
RailTel was awarded an Rs 86.90 crore contract by Konkan Railway Corporation, which built the Katra-Dharam section of the rail link, last month to install a similar communication system.
