Repair work begins on Noida Link Road near Akshardham

The severely damaged Noida Link Road stretch in front of the Akshardham temple has finally seen the beginning of repair work. It had been riddled with potholes, and the expansion joints on the flyover had developed gaps too.

Noida Link Road serves as a crucial connection, but it had been neglected, causing inconvenience to the hundreds of thousands of commuters who use it daily to travel between Noida and Delhi.

In 2022, the former PWD minister, Manish Sisodia, had approved a proposal to repair the road, which was later handed over to NHAI.

At present, the entire upper layer of the road is being scrapped, and the potholes are being filled with cement. During a spot check, I observed a new bituminous layer being laid in front of the Akshardham metro station. The repair work is also underway on the side heading towards Noida.

A resident of Mayur Vihar commented that the authorities have finally taken notice of the difficulties faced by the numerous people using this road daily. They expressed relief that the work has commenced and the road is being repaired, even if it is due to G20.

The condition of the road near the footbridge at the exit of Akshardham flyover often slows down vehicles heading towards Noida, which puts commuters at a disadvantage. The stretch is already congested for hours during the day because of pick-and-drops by autos and private vehicles near the metro station.

Furthermore, there are several food vendors occupying the footpath, forcing people to use the main road. Additionally, the stretch near Yamuna Bank metro station has craters that have worsened due to recent rains.
