A huge hillslide has fallen in the Sirmaur district of Himalayas, after two continuous days of heavy rain. As the hilltop crumbles down, a large number of boulders and rocks roll down the hill. Not only this, the huge boulders carried away with them a long stretch of road and uprooted many trees. Besides these, the bridge in Basteri river also collapsed down. See the video here. Massive rainfall has provoked so many landslides to happen in this region. Previous week, nine people were killed in a landslide-related incident on the Sangla-Chitkul road in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district. Landslides and flash floods set by substantial rainfall have led to the killing of nine people and many more have been reported as missing. The hills and mountains of Himachal Pradesh are liable to suffer landslides during monsoons. The susceptibility of the geologically young and unstable steep slopes in various Himalayan ranges, has been rapidly increasing in recent decades due to inappropriate activity, such as deforestation, road cutting, terracing and changes in agriculture pattern requiring more intense watering.
