The Nechiphu Tunnel, measuring 500 meters in length on the Balipara-Charduar-Tawang road, has been inaugurated. This tunnel, along with the under-construction Sela Tunnel, will provide year-round connectivity to the strategically important Tawang region near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China in Arunachal Pradesh.

This development is part of 90 infrastructure projects undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) across 11 states and union territories, with a total value of over Rs 29 billion . The projects were dedicated to the nation by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh during a ceremony in Jammu.

The Nechiphu Tunnel is expected to benefit the armed forces stationed in the region and facilitate tourism in Tawang, according to the Ministry of Defense.

Additionally, Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone of the Nyoma Airfield in Eastern Ladakh, which will be developed at an estimated cost of 2.00 billion. This airfield will enhance air infrastructure in Ladakh and strengthen the Indian Air Force's capabilities along the northern border with China.

During the event, Singh praised the BRO for its role in developing infrastructure in border areas and contributing significantly to the nation's security. He expressed confidence that the BRO would set another record with the construction of the Shinkun La Tunnel, the world's highest tunnel at an altitude of 15,855 feet. This tunnel will connect Lahaul-Spiti in Himachal Pradesh to the Zaskar Valley in Ladakh and provide year-round connectivity.

In addition to the tunnels and airfield, two airfields in West Bengal, two helipads, 22 roads, and 63 bridges were also inaugurated. The majority of these projects were completed in record time, with many finished in a single working season, utilising advanced technology.

The Defense Minister commended the BRO for its contributions to border security and the socio-economic development of remote areas, emphasising the importance of timely infrastructure completion in such regions.
