Rs 530 billion road works to be carried out in Pune by NHAI

To relieve traffic congestion in Pune city and district, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will undertake new projects like ring road, elevated route, Pune-Bangalore road, and Pune Chhatrapati-Sambhajinagar route. The estimated cost of 625 kilometres of the work will cost Rs 530 billion. Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, said that the Maharashtra government will be asked to waive off the GST and royalty fees for this development.

During a news conference in Pune, Gadkari disclosed this information. Future initiatives will be carried out in Maharashtra. At Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), the capacity for both rail and road transportation has been reached, and hence, other methods must now be discovered. Starting a direct, two-lane railroad line from Daund, Baramati to JNPT is necessary. Mumbai, Thane won’t be served by this train, reducing traffic there. The meeting with the minister of railroads will be scheduled for the same time. This idea has not yet received approval.

A new highway between Pune and Bangalore will be built, and land acquisition work has already begun. The residents will gain from it because this stretch will go through western Maharashtra's drought-stricken regions. After Virar, a flyover will be built to connect the Delhi-Mumbai route. The cost will be Rs 1 trillion. The Pune area and western Maharashtra will see the completion of projects worth Rs 530 billion.

This involves initiatives like the Pune Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Expressway, the Pune Bangalore Expressway, the Talegaon Chakan Elevated Corridor, the Nashik Phata Khed Elevated Corridor, the Pune Shirur Corridor, and the Diveghat Hadapsar Road. According to Gadkari, “Big projects are going to be done in Maharashtra in the future. As its cost is high, the state government has requested to waive GST and royalty. Also, it is seen that the service of the contractor’s ambulances on the highways is not good, ambulances must be reaching the spot of the accident on time hence, a contract is being made with 108 helpline.
