Sarma Announces Completion Date for Numaligarh-Dibrugarh Lane

At the inauguration of two flyovers in Dibrugarh on Sunday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that Numaligarh-Dibrugarh stretch of National Highway-37 is progressing as planned and is set to be complete by December 31, 2025. The segment is a vital component of the Guwahati-Dibrugarh high-speed corridor, an initiative aimed at improving connectivity across Assam. To commemorate the January 2026 inauguration, an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft is set to land on an Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in Moran.

The ELF currently being constructed at the Moran bypass is planned to span 3.5 km. It will be located 40 km from Dibrugarh and will function as an emergency landing strip for military aircraft and aid in disaster response operations thereby enhancing national security and safety in the area. It will be designed to accommodate fighter jets such as Sukhois and Tejas, as well as transport aircraft like Hercules and Antonov AN-32.

According to government officials, the 39.7 km segment between Numaligarh and Jorhat was completed on March 15th of this year. Current progress on the remaining sections varies, with the 37.8 km Jorhat to Jhanji section at 66.93 per cent completion, the 44 km Jhanji-Demow section at 23.09 per cent, the 26.9-km Demow-Moran Bypass End section at 78.46 per cent, and the 19.1 km Moran Bypass End-Dibrugarh Bogibeel Junction section at 62.27 per cent completed.

Once fully operational, the highway will help enhance the movement of goods and passengers, benefiting agriculture and tourism in the region. It is also expected to significantly improve logistics for the prominent tea and oil industries that play a significant role in Assam's economy.
