Solapur road set for revamp

The civic administration has announced plans to improve traffic flow and commuting on the busy Solapur road as part of its 'Mission 15 Roads' initiative. Several measures will be undertaken, including the installation of directional signage boards and the remodelling of the PMPML bus stop. Additionally, the cycle track will be removed, among other actions. The work will commence on September 30.

Last month, civic officials conducted a site visit to Pune-Solapur road to formulate a strategy and design a work route map. They inspected a cycle track near Vaiduwadi along the Hadapsar-BRTS road and decided to erect signage boards from Bhairoba Nala to Ravidarshan building. Furthermore, plans were made to redesign the PMPML bus stop at Fatima Nagar chowk and improve signboards along Solapur road (from Fatima Nagar chowk to Hadapsar road). During the site visit, additional municipal commissioner Vikas Dhakne led a team of officials, including superintendent engineer of PMC road department Sahebrao Dandge, executive engineers Sudhir Chavan and Sandeep Ranware; motor vehicle inspector Kiran Bansode, assistant motor vehicle inspector Dhuldev Kokre; assistant engineer of electrical department, Nilesh Kalekar. Officials from PMPML, transport planner, Pune, and MLA Chetan Tupe were also present for the meeting.

During the site visit and road inspection, it was also decided that an electric pole between Army Institute of Physical Training (AIPT) and Avenue Mall should be removed, and an air valve should be shifted. The official stated, "Realigning road structures in front of Vijay Sales is expected to improve traffic flow. Orders have been issued for the swift relocation of water supply valves and electric poles." Similarly, the PMPML faces challenges due to inadequate information at existing bus stops. To address this issue, directives have been issued to display timetables. Plans are in place to address issues such as repairing and painting road railings from Bhairoba Nala to Fatima Nagar chowk. To tackle congestion and traffic issues from Fatima Nagar chowk to Pratik Enterprises, efforts are on to acquire private land up to Pratik Enterprises and lower footpaths to road level. These measures are expected to significantly enhance traffic flow.
