Sukhu Directs BRO to Handle Wangtu-Mudh-Bhawa Pass Route in HP

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has requested the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to take over the construction of the Wangtu-Attargoo-Mudh-Bhawa Pass route, which will connect Kinnaur with Lahaul-Spiti district. This request was made during a meeting with Director General of Border Roads (DGBR), Lieutenant General Raghu Srinivasan.

The Wangtu-Attargoo-Mudh-Bhawa Pass route recently received clearance from the National Board for Wildlife and, once completed, will be the second highest motorable road in India, located at an altitude of 4,865 metres, after Khardung La. The new route is expected to reduce the distance between Shimla and Kaza by nearly 100 kilometres, providing an alternative to the existing difficult route via Nako, Sumdo, and Tabo.

During the meeting, Lieutenant General Srinivasan highlighted several key infrastructure projects under Project Deepak, including the upgradation and development of three major National Highways (NH-03, NH-05, and NH-505) in the Manali and Sissu sectors of Himachal Pradesh. These projects are strategically important and aim to improve connectivity, as well as the quality of life for residents in remote and difficult-to-reach areas of the state.

The Chief Minister acknowledged the significant progress made by the BRO in enhancing infrastructure in some of the state's most challenging high-altitude terrains. The efforts made by the organization in improving road access in these inhospitable regions were highly appreciated.
