The 111-km Kanwar Marg project could be finished in two years

Kanwar Yatra detours may not provide city residents with relief anytime soon because it will take an additional two years to complete the 111-kilometer Kanwar Marg, which would connect Muradnagar to Purkaji near the border between Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, once the necessary forest clearances have been obtained.

The Upper Ganga Canal, which is currently covered in dense vegetation, runs across the two locations where the proposed road is slanted to join them. Additionally, it is planned as a backup route for Haridwar-based kanwariyas who use the Delhi-Meerut Road to return home during the Kanwar Yatra season.

The proposed route will link Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, and Ghaziabad districts.

Kanwariyas use the Delhi-Meerut Road, which is currently closed to traffic and has significant detours in place for commuters, as there is no other option from Haridwar.

Due to the annual yatra, the district administration last week also ordered the closure of schools and colleges.
