The Federation for the Retrieval of the Trichy Papannai-Thuvakudi Service Road has urged the state government to speed up and finish land acquisition for a pending service road for the Trichy-Thanjavur National Highway. The federation told the media at a press conference in Trichy on Monday that request letters had been sent to the Prime Minister and President, requesting their intervention in making the NH safer. The land acquisition process was being held up by NHAI and revenue officials, according to the report. S Sakthivel, the federation's organiser. said that the authorities issued land acquisition orders about 11 months ago, but the process has yet to be completed. Repeated requests to the district administration, the state government, and elected officials have all been in vain. Residents informed that the lack of a service road on a critical NH route was causing fatal accidents. They claimed that some traders, who were dissatisfied with how the land acquisition was affecting their business prospects, were attempting to derail the service road project by proposing an elevated corridor as an alternative. For over a decade, the service road for the 14.5 km NH stretch between Palpannai and Thuvakudi has been on hold. National Highways are the major road networks connecting state capitals, major ports, large industrial areas, and tourist destinations, as well as those notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and Government of India.
