The national highway (NH) wing of the Tamil Nadu highways department plans to expand the highway from Saravanampatti to Puliyampatti at Rs 100 crore. The government has already sanctioned the project. The 32 km highway stretch is only seven km wide. It plans to expand the road width to 10 m. According to an official, the highway was an accident-prone area with heavy traffic. Many educational institutions and industrial centers are coming up along the stretch. The state highway department has planned to increase the width of the road by 1.5 m each from both sides of Saravanampatti-Annur-Puliyampatti road. Additional land acquisition is not required for the project. Many trees will have to be felled on both sides of the highway. To compensate for the loss of trees, trees will be planted along Avinashi Road. The official said that the department had sent a detailed project report (DPR) to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The ministry had sanctioned Rs 100 crore for the state highway project. The road widening project is expected to begin in March 2022. After widening the road, fatal and non-fatal road accidents are likely to decrease. Image Source
