Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that the state government has launched a comprehensive plan to develop tourism in Tripura. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth �692 crore has been signed by the Tripura Tourism Department to facilitate the construction of ropeways.

Speaking at the World Tourism Day 2024 event and the recognition ceremony for unsung heroes of the recent floods in Tripura at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan, Dr. Saha explained that the MoU was established between the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation Limited and National Highways Logistics Management Limited. The initiative will create ropeways linking Udaipur Railway Station to Matabari, Maharto Chabimura, Surmachara, and Jampui Hills.

The Chief Minister emphasized that tourism is a vital sector for economic growth, both in the state and across the country.

""The state government is implementing a multi-faceted plan to promote tourism. This year, the host country for World Tourism Day is Georgia. Tripura's natural beauty is a significant asset for tourism, complemented by its numerous temples and mosques that attract religious tourists. Key religious sites include the Tripura Sundari Temple, Kasba Kalibari, Fourteenth Goddess Temple, Mangalchandi Temple of Amarpur, and Mahamuni Pagoda. We are also enhancing the appeal of Matabari in Udaipur, while Narkelkunja and Dumbur have already been made more attractive for visitors,"" he said.

Dr. Saha highlighted the ongoing development of tourist infrastructure through various central government schemes.

""Tourism is a major source of employment and plays a crucial role in economic development and poverty alleviation. We have constructed and commissioned 41 modern log huts at various tourist destinations across the state,"" he noted.

The Chief Minister further mentioned that the Swadesh Darshan 1.0 project has facilitated infrastructure development at tourist sites like Agartala, Sepahijala, Melaghar, Udaipur, Amarpur, Mandirghat, Tirthamukh, Narkelkunja, Dumbur, Ambassa, Neermahal, and Baramura.

""To enhance tourism infrastructure in the state, projects have also been initiated for the development of Chabimura, the Sonamukhi area of Kailashahar, the Chaturdash Devata Temple, and the Kasba Kali Temple area, with support from the Asian Development Bank. Work has already begun in the Sonamukhi area and Chabimura,"" CM Saha stated.

He added that approximately �180 crore will be allocated for the development of these tourist attractions.

The event was attended by Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, Mayor Dipak Majumder, Tourism Department Secretary Dr. TK Debnath, and TTDC Managing Director Prashant Badal Negi.
