A 23 km stretch of the third ghat road, as well as a third stairway leading to the Tirumala Hills, Lord Venkateswara's ancient abode, will be built as soon as possible, according to a top official of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), which governs the shrine. According to a press release from the devasthanams, TTD Board Chairman YV Subba Reddy directed the engineering section of TTD to prepare a detailed project report and invite tenders for the new road and stairway on Sunday. According to the media, the proposed stairway, dubbed Annamiah Margam, would be useful for devotees walking from Kadapa and Hyderabad. The new routes would be developed on the orders of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, according to the release, which quoted Subba Reddy. There are two ghat roads in Tirumala Hills: one that leads up the hills and the other that leads down. The hills have two stairways: one from Alipiri in Tirupati, where Saint Sri Ramanuja Charya trekked the hills on his knees a millennium ago, and the other from Srivari Mettu on the western side of the Hills, where Krishnadevaraya, an emperor of the Vijayanagara Kingdom, trekked the Hills by foot many times to offer worship. TTD is a collection of temples established under Act 30 of 1987's First Schedule 2. Members of the Board of Trustees are appointed by the government. TTD employs about 14,000 people and maintains 12 temples and their sub-shrines. TTD has dedicated itself to serving Tirumala and Tirupati pilgrims.
