Ulhasnagar issues tenders worth Rs 1.50 bn for road work

The Mumbai Metropolitan Road Development Authority (MMRDA) has issued tenders for work on six main routes in the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) jurisdiction with a fund of Rs 1.50 billion, UMC Deputy Commissioner Ashok Naikwade said this week.

The UMC is preparing to make all the roads in Ulhasnagar cement-concrete. Already, more than 60% of the roads in the township are cement-concrete.

On funding, Naikwade said, 鈥淭he UMC under the Suvarna Jayanti Urban Development Scheme has received a fund of Rs 2.43 billion. If the work is approved, the roads in Ulhasnagar will be in a good condition.

鈥淭he Ulhasnagar civic body spends crores of rupees every year on road repair and pothole filling. If concrete roads are constructed, this money can be saved,鈥� UMC Commissioner Aziz Shaikh said.

Shaikh said the civic body is trying to complete the city development work on time and most of the development work will be complete before the new year.
