In the coming 2-3 years, Uttar Pradesh will have around 2,230 km expressways passing through many states in India. The state is anticipated to get a network of approximately 2,230 km of expressways, as per the estimate of works achieved, stretches under construction and tenders floated by different road owning agencies. While the state government has achieved four expressways, comprising the Purvanchal e-way, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the past week, work has begun on three more such stretches. Two expressway stretches have been developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) � Delhi-Meerut and Easter Peripheral Expressways. Significant portions of these two are within UP. The NHAI has additionally taken up the development of a 210-km expressway beginning from Akshardham in Delhi and ending in Dehradun. Around 191 km of this expressway comes in UP. Now, the government is concentrating on expressways and greenfield highways across the nation. But Uttar Pradesh has taken the lead to develop its expressways with its own funds. No other state can compete with UP in this enormous infrastructure push to enhance connectivity within a state, as per an NHAI official.
