Vadaj Junction in Ahmedabad to get 4-lane flyover and 2-lane underpass

The civic authority said that a four-lane flyover and a two-lane underpass will be built at the Vadaj junction for Rs 1.06 billion.

The designs provide for a 417-metre underpass from Dhadhichi bridge to Akhbarnagar and a 735-metre flyover from Vadaj junction to Ranip.

The flyover and the underpass will be built during the nearly 30 months that the area will be closed off. A full traffic diversion strategy will be made public by the AMC.

The flyover will feature three spans and a single deck. Around 1.75 lakh commuters would profit from the project. To grade traffic and reduce congestion, a few traffic islands will also be built around the junction.

An assessment on traffic flow at nine of the city's busiest intersections from 2020 found that during peak hours, 142 to 420 vehicles passed through these locations every minute. These intersections are located in the western and eastern areas of the city, respectively, and include Vadaj, Pragatinagar, Sattadhar, Panjrapol, and Shastrinagar.

The Vadaj junction saw up to 417 vehicles per minute of traffic during the morning rush hour, while Panjrapol had only 129 vehicles per minute of traffic. AMC has disclosed a second flyover project for Rs 2.35 billion between Galaxy Cinema and Devi Cinema Junction heading towards Naroda Patiya Junction.
