HMT Machine Tools Ajmer develops grinding machine for railway axles

On Sunday HMT Machine Tools Ajmer, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of HMT Limited, said that it developed a highly-productive grinding machine that might cost less than half of the imported equipment for the railway axles.

Indian Railways is importing the equipment from European countries as it was not manufactured in the country.

This daunting task and pains taking efforts for the development of such a world-class machine was taken by a highly motivated engineering team and craftsmen at HMT Machine Tools Limited in the Ajmer plant aligning with the dream envisioned by PM Modi for the development of cutting edge technology in the country by the simultaneous achievement of 'Make in India' and 'Atma Nirbhar Bharat' objectives, company told the media.

The machine will be utilised to grind both end-diameters of railway axles within a single set up for doubling the productivity while costing less than half of the equipment that is imported, leading to valuable foreign exchange savings, the statement further said.

Extensive cutting trials and testing had been conducted by a third-party inspection agency employed by the Indian Railways and all the performance parameters were achieved, further achieving the satisfaction level of the railway officials.

Recently, the machine was inaugurated as well as launched by the Chairman and Managing Director A.K. Jain.
