The Telangana Cabinet made significant decisions during its recent meeting. One of the key decisions was to expand the metro rail network in Hyderabad, allocating approximately Rs 600 billion for this project over the next three to four years. This expansion aims to strengthen public transport in the city, connecting various routes between Hyderabad and its outskirts. Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao, presided over the meeting and emphasised the importance of completing the metro rail project within the specified timeframe.Additionally, the cabinet recognised the over 43,000 employees of the state-run Road Transport Corporation (RTC) as government staff, a move that will have important implications for their employment benefits and status.In response to the recent heavy rains that caused loss of life and damage to property, the cabinet decided to provide ex-gratia to the kin of the 40 people who lost their lives. An immediate assistance of Rs 5 billion was also allocated for the urgent repair of roads, tanks, and other infrastructure damaged by the heavy rains.Another significant decision was to request the Centre's support in allowing civil aviation services from the Hakimpet Air Force station in Hyderabad to meet the growing needs of the state capital. The state government believes that having a second airport in Hyderabad is crucial due to the city's continuous growth.The cabinet also decided to pass bills returned by Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan again in the assembly and appointed a sub-committee of officials to work on the modalities of recognising RTC employees as government employees.Furthermore, the cabinet showed concern for orphans and decided to create an orphan policy that treats them as children of the state, placing the responsibility of their care on the government.In terms of political appointments, the cabinet decided to nominate BRS leader Sravan Dasoju and former MLA Kurra Satyanarayana as MLC candidates under the Governor quota, considering their respective backgrounds from the backward and minority communities.Overall, the Telangana Cabinet made a series of crucial decisions, ranging from infrastructure development to social welfare measures, reflecting the government's commitment to the well-being and progress of the state.
