CM Unveils Common Mobility Card for Metro Line 3 Commuters

Starting June 11, passengers on Mumbai Metro鈥檚 underground Metro 3 line鈥攐perational between Aarey-JVLR and Acharya Atre Chowk鈥攃an now use the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for seamless, contactless travel. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), responsible for constructing, operating, and maintaining Metro 3, has enabled this functionality to simplify the commuter experience.
The NCMC card, launched at Mantralaya in the presence of key state leaders, allows commuters to tap and travel without waiting in queues at ticket counters. This move extends the card鈥檚 usability beyond Metro 1 (Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar), Metro 2A (Dahisar East-Andheri West), and Metro 7 (Dahisar East-Gundavali), where it was already accepted. Additionally, the card can be used on BEST鈥檚 Chalo buses.
However, the Mumbai Monorail and suburban train systems are yet to be integrated with the NCMC, and there are no immediate plans to include them.
Plans are underway to introduce a Common Mobility App that will allow commuters to buy tickets for various transport modes via a single platform. Though initially scheduled for a May 1 launch, the app has been delayed, with the new launch date yet to be confirmed.
Existing NCMC cardholders can start using their cards on Metro 3 from June 11, while new cards can be purchased at stations along the Aarey-JVLR to Acharya Atre Chowk route, as well as from select State Bank of India branches. These cards are issued free of charge, requiring a minimum top-up of Rs 100 and a maximum limit of Rs 2000.
MMRC officials indicated that the integration of NCMC with Metro 3 is a major step towards a smart, commuter-centric transport system, aligning with the Government of India鈥檚 vision for unified urban mobility.
