Contract to supply HHR for Chennai metro phase 2 is won by VNC-KEC JV

On December 30, 2022, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) awarded a contract to a joint venture between KEC International Ltd. and Vijay Nirman Company for the delivery of head-hardened rails for Corridor 5 (Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur) of Chennai metro rail project phase 2. They have received a contract order (letter of acceptance) from CMRL for INR 2 million.
The project's scope of work entails the installation of ballastless tracks as well as the provision of head-hardened rails, turnouts, and fasteners in 16 metro stations of Chennai metro phase 2.
A tender notice for the aforementioned work (contract package CP18B ATW-12/2022) with an anticipated contract value of INR 1.94 million was released in January 2022. Technical bids were launched in June 2022, while financial bids were opened on 20 August, 2022.
At the contract signing, a number of representatives from Chennai Metro Rail Ltd, KEC International Ltd, and the Vijay Nirman Company were present. These representatives included T. Archunan (Director/Projects), S. Ashok Kumar, CCM (T&EC), Livingstone, CGM (PP&D), Smt. Rekha Prakash, CCM (PD), Gurunath Reddy, ACM (CP), Sivaguru, Project Manager, and Praveen Coel Corridor 5 (Red Line) of the Chennai Metro's Phase 2 would connect Madhavaram Milk Colony and Sholinganallur with 48 stations. One is at grade, six are underground, and forty one are raised.
