Delhi's Anand Vihar Station to get three bridges for safer commuting

The National Capital Regional Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is currently undertaking the construction of three bridges at the Anand Vihar Rapidx station in Delhi as part of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System, India's inaugural rapid rail project. The objective behind these bridge constructions is to enhance pedestrian safety and alleviate congestion on the roads.

According to an official from the NCRTC, the Anand Vihar RAPIDX station will feature a dedicated pedestrian bridge, as well as two separate bridges to facilitate the segregated entry and exit of vehicles into the station premises. This multimodal integration aims to seamlessly connect all existing modes of transportation at this location.

These three bridges will span the Ghazipur drain, situated between the Anand Vihar RAPIDX station and Chaudhary Charan Singh Marg. The right bridge will serve as the entry point for vehicles accessing the Anand Vihar RAPIDX station, while the left bridge will function as the exit route. The middle bridge will be exclusively reserved for the movement of pedestrians within the station premises.

The entrance bridge over the Ghazipur drain will be approximately 10 meters wide, enabling taxis, private vehicles, and others to enter the station grounds and drop off passengers at the station gate. The exit bridge, located on the left side of the station, will have a width of 13 meters and will facilitate the smooth return of vehicles to the main road. The pedestrian-only bridge will measure 6 meters wide.

Anand Vihar witnesses a high volume of daily commuters relying on various modes of transportation. Unfortunately, these passengers often encounter difficulties when transitioning between different modes of transport, leading to overcrowding. This congestion not only impedes the flow of vehicles but also causes traffic jams on the road, as noted by officials.
