Five consulting firms bid to create a Feasibility Study for the development of a personal rapid transit (PRT) system in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), which is located near Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
This suggested project, which intends to be based on sustainable, smart, and green principles, will carry 4-8 persons in miniature autonomous pod-cars or pod-taxis for nonstop point-to-point travel within the commercial center.
Introduction of the PRT system:
The Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) is a driverless, electric vehicle system that provides point-to-point transportation within the city. The PRT system is designed to be a more efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional modes of transportation, such as cars and buses.
The PRT system in GIFT City consists of a network of elevated guideways that are connected to stations throughout the city. Passengers can board and disembark from PRT vehicles at any station. The PRT vehicles are computer-controlled and travel at speeds of up to 20 miles per hour.
The PRT system in GIFT City is a first-of-its-kind system in India.
It is being carried out by National Highways Logistics Management Ltd. (NHLML), a National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) special purpose entity. Tenders were invited for this consultancy contract in January 2023, with an undetermined estimate and a 180-day deadline. On June 6, technical bids were opened.
