The Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) had carried out a successful trial run of the Pettah-SN Junction route of its metro.The rail route marks the first stretch handled by the KMRL. It conducted another trial run on Monday, 14 February. Previously, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) constructed the 25 km-long Aluva-Pettah stretch. According to a report, the KMRL began work for the Phase-1 Pettah-SN Junction in December 2019, with Rs 453 crore for the 1.8 km metro corridor. About 95% of the work at the stations is completed, while the remaining work will be completed soon. The tracks were also cleared for the trial run. Apart from conducting the trial run, the KMRL said it would add more trains to the Aluva-Pettah corridor, as the Covid-19 situation in the state was eased. During the peak hours, the trains will operate every 7 minutes and 30 seconds and every 9 minutes during off-peak hours. The KMRL鈥檚 Phase-1 from SN Junction to Thirupunithura is also in its final stages of completion, with 80% of civil work has been completed in parts of the 1.2 km stretch. The land acquisition for the project might be completed soon. As part of the railway extension, KMRL will construct a two-lane bridge parallel to the old bridge in Pettah.
