Kollam Junction in Kerala to receive top-notch amenities

To place Kollam Junction on the map of top-tier stations, Southern Railway has embarked on the rehabilitation project. In terms of daily scheduled train handling, it is Kerala's second busiest railway station. Every year, it receives an average of 16 billion passengers.

On August 26, 2022, the zonal railway awarded the EPC contract to Bangalore-based RITES - SCWPL (JV) for a sum of Rs 3.61 billion. Within 39 months, the redevelopment project will be finished. LEA Associates South Asia, based in New Delhi, has been given the project management services (PMS) task of overseeing the reconstruction project for a fee of Rs 79.4 million.

The Southern and Northern sides of the current station building will both undergo development work.

Booking counters, a waiting area, a passenger information centre, help assistance booths, baggage scanning, outposts of GRP and RPF, etc. will all be located on the renovated southern side. There will be an air concourse to ensure smooth passenger circulation. The concourse will link the structure's southern and northern sides. The platforms will be easier for passengers to see thanks to careful planning by the railway officials.

There will be 6 lifts and 4 escalators, as intended. Ten escalators will link the platforms to the concourse.
