Meerut Metro Trial Begins to Connect with RRTS

The trial run of the Delhi-Meerut Metro began, covering the route between Meerut South and Meerut Central stations at a nominal speed, as reported by officials from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).

The metro project, which is designed to reduce traffic congestion on the Delhi-Meerut road, is expected to ease the burden on a route that handles millions of vehicles daily, including commuters traveling to Modi Nagar, Ghaziabad, Delhi, and the Uttarakhand highway. During the trial, the train鈥檚 speed varied between 40 and 135 km/h to evaluate safety, ride comfort, and system integration. Puneet Vats, the NCRTC's chief public relations officer, mentioned that the civil construction work was nearly completed, and the metro would become operational within the year. It is set to connect with the Namo Bharat semi-high-speed train network at key RRTS stations.

The metro stations in Meerut feature a unique design, with two platforms and four tracks, allowing accommodation for both the city鈥檚 metro trains and the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail Transit Corridor.
