The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has started the statutory inspection of the delayed Phase 1 of 2A and 7 corridors between Dahanukarwadi and Aarey, a 20km stretch in the western suburbs of Mumbai Metro. The inspection is a routine process done by the CMRS team before a metro line starts. It is a compulsory and significant clearance of the CMRS, which is required to commence commercial operation of the service. The inspection will go on for one week. The previous month, Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) got provisional certification from the Research, Design and Standard Organisation (RDSO) for the stretch. The RDSO certificate is among one of the pre-requisite clearances that is required to begin metro operations. Currently, MMRDA is testing Aarey and Dahisar East lines (Line 7) and Dahisar (West) and Dahanukarwadi (Line 2A). Phase-1 2A and seven corridors would cover 18 stations. Initially, MMRDA announced that Phase-1 of the project would begin in October 2021. However, the work got delayed, and it is likely to start in the coming month. The remaining stretch also missed its deadline for the trial run as most of the work is still pending. Meanwhile, Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) has provided all the metro rakes to MMRDA for beginning operation on the lines. MMRDA also prepared a tentative schedule of the Metro services on the route. The metro rakes are also expected to have separate coaches for specially challenged people and women. An official told the media that the timetable and other additional things are under assessment, and they are preparing to begin the operation and every necessary thing required for it. For a practical training session of the employees working at the Aarey station, a mock drill was conducted. So they could get a brief understanding of how to manage certain situations and problems.
