When the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) plan comes to fruition, a 15-story multi-modal transportation building will be built on 40 acre on the Sinnar side of the Nashik Road railway station. The multi-modal transportation project would function as a terminus for the Nashik Metro, the Nashik-Pune semi-high-speed rail line project, and as a depot for the city bus service provided by the Nashik Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (NMPML). Commissioner Kailas Jadhav of the NMC met with MahaRail and MahaMetro officials to discuss the plan. By the first week of September, Jadhav will meet with the managing directors of MahaRail and MahaMetro to finalise the project. The project will also include shopping malls and hotels to make it viable. Passengers will be able to transfer without interruption as a result of the project. The multi-modal transport hub will be accessible via escalators from the existing Nashik Road railway station. According to Jadhav, they already own 13 acre on the site, with MahaRail and MahaMetro acquiring the remaining 27 acre. He went on to say that once the project is completed, a consultant will be hired to write a detailed project report. The project will have a built-up area of around 4 lakh square metres. The proposed rubber-tired Nashik Metro project is being implemented by Maha Metro. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a budget provision of Rs 2,092 crore. The project is now awaiting approval from the union cabinet. The rubber-tired AC electric coaches will run on two 32 km elevated corridors and can carry around 300 passengers. NMC planned to construct a bus depot for the city bus service adjacent to the Nashik Road railway station. Following the announcement of plans for a multi-modal transportation hub, NMC has halted construction on the proposed bus depot for its city bus service.
