PM Inaugurates Rs 16 Bn Railway Projects for Maha Kumbh Pilgrims

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a series of railway projects worth over Rs 16 billion aimed at improving transport infrastructure for pilgrims attending the Maha Kumbh. These include the doubling and electrification of the Jhusi-Prayagraj line, along with a Rs 850 crore railway bridge over the Ganges River.

Additional projects to handle the influx of 13,000 trains during the religious event include the installation of electronic interlocking systems at Prayagraj Junction, which will enhance train operations, safety, and connectivity to major cities. Seven Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and three Rail Under Bridges (RUBs), costing approximately Rs 415 crore, have also been commissioned to eliminate manned level crossings.

Passenger facilities at Prayagraj Junction, Naini, Jhusi, Subedarganj, Prayagraj Chheoki, and Prayagraj Rambagh stations have been upgraded with improved waiting rooms, CCTVs, new water and restroom facilities, all built at a cost of Rs 226 crore. The modernized second entry gates at key stations such as Phaphamau, Prayag, and Naini also enhance station accessibility, improving the overall travel experience for pilgrims.
