PMPML to reassess Ramwadi Metro-Pune Airport feeder

The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal (PMPML) announced that due to the limited number of passengers utilising the recently launched bus feeder service from Ramwadi metro station to Pune Airport, they would reconsider the service if the passenger count remained low for two additional months.

They stated that currently, approximately 200 passengers are availing of the service on a daily basis. The route from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi metro, operated by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha-Metro), was officially opened on March 6, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the chief guest.

In order to facilitate passengers with last-mile connectivity, the PMPML commenced the bus feeder service from Ramwadi metro station to Pune Airport the following day. The route from Ramwadi metro station to Pune (Lohegaon) Airport (via Sakore Nagar) includes stops at various locations such as Hyatt Hotel, Wakefield Company, Sakore Nagar, Nexa Showroom, Viman Nagar lane no. 22, Viman Nagar lane no. 21, Symbiosis College Viman Nagar, Croma Mall Lohegaon, and Lohegaon Airport. The ticket prices range from Rs 5 to Rs 10, depending on the distance, with an approximate travel time of 25 minutes.

Similarly, the route from Ramwadi metro station to Lohegaon Airport (via Sanjay Park Lane no. 6) includes stops at Lohegaon Airport, Croma Mall Lohegaon, Symbiosis College Viman Nagar, Sanjay Park Lane no. 6, Maruti Suzuki Showroom Sakore Nagar, and Checkmate Hotel. The ticket prices are also between Rs 5 and Rs 10, with a similar travel time of around 25 minutes. These services are provided by the PMPML.

According to the PMPML, they initiated the bus feeder service from Ramwadi metro station to Pune Airport with 10 trips per day. Initially, about 50 passengers were utilizing it daily, which has now increased to approximately 200 passengers. However, the PMPML's target is to have over 400 daily passengers. Typically, the PMPML assesses the passenger response to any new route for approximately two months before deciding whether to continue or discontinue it. Despite the lower-than-expected response, the PMPML remains hopeful for improvement based on the positive feedback received from other bus feeder services.

Since its inauguration on March 6, more than 60,000 passengers have traveled on the new Pune Metro route from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi. The inauguration, initially planned for February 19, was postponed due to the Prime Minister's busy schedule and was eventually conducted virtually from Kolkata on March 6. During the virtual ceremony, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the extended metro line from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Nigadi via video conferencing.
