Railways makes Rs 146.42 billion from May freight loading

According to the Ministry of Railways, it was announced that the Railways had achieved a freight loading of 134 million tonne (MT) in May 2023. This showed an improvement of 2% compared to last year's freight loading of 131 MT for the same period.
The Ministry of Railways stated that the freight revenue for May 2023 amounted to Rs 146.41 billion, which was an improvement of about 4 percent compared to the freight earnings of Rs 140.83 billion in May 2022.
On a cumulative basis from April to May 2023, the Railways achieved a freight loading of 260.28 MT, which was an improvement of approximately 3% over last year's loading of 253.48 MT.
The Ministry stated, "Railways have earned Rs 285,12 billion against Rs 270,66 billion over the last year, which is an improvement of approximately 5% compared to the same period of the last year."
In May 2023, Indian Railways achieved a freight loading of 65.89 MT in Coal, followed by 15.23 MT in Iron Ore, 13.20 MT in cement, 10.96 MT in balance other goods, 6.79 MT in containers, 4.89 MT in Fertilizer, 4.85 MT in Food grains, and 4.23 MT in mineral oil.
According to the Ministry, Indian Railways has made sustained efforts to improve the ease of doing business as well as improve service delivery at competitive prices, following the mantra "Hungry For Cargo."
