RITES Secures DPR Contract for Kochi Metro Phase 3

Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. (KMRL) has announced RITES Ltd. as the lowest bidder for preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Kochi Metro’s Phase 3 expansion. The consultancy contract, floated in January 2025, comes with a 180-day timeline for completion.

Scope of Phase 3 Expansion Kochi Metro’s Phase 3 will extend Line-1 by 14 km, connecting Aluva to Angamaly via Cochin International Airport (COK) at Nedumbassery. This expansion builds upon the existing 27.96 km metro corridor from Aluva to Tripunithura, taking the total network length to approximately 42 km.

Key Project Features:

Route Extension: Aluva to Angamaly, integrating airport connectivity. Network Growth: Upon completion, Line-1 will stretch to 42 km. Consultancy Scope: RITES will prepare the DPR, assessing feasibility and technical details. Future Expansion: The study includes the potential extension to Global City, Ayyampuzha, a 358-acre site under the Kochi-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (KBIC) initiative.
