With the completion of work between Wirur and Manikgarh, the significant third line project in the Grand Trunk route, namely the Kazipet-Balharshah project, which spans Telangana and Maharashtra, has taken another important step forward. Both the third line and the electrification works for a distance of 19.2 km have now been completed. The section between Kazipet and Balharshah is a critical rail link that connects the country's northern and southern regions, according to a press release from the South Central Railway (SCR). The section of the SCR between Kazipet and Balharshah is shared by Telangana and Maharashtra. This section of the Grand Trunk route has been experiencing steady growth in both passenger and freight traffic, resulting in oversaturation. The tripling works between Raghavapuram and Mandamarri for a distance of 33 km were completed in 2016 to decongest this vital section. Tripling and electrification work on the balanced stretch of the Kazipet-Balharshah section, covering a distance of 202 km Telangana 159 km and Maharashtra 43 km, was sanctioned in the year 2015 to 16 at an estimated cost of Rs 2,063 crore to help alleviate traffic congestion. SCR said in a press release that 31 km between Potkapalli and Raghavapuram have already been completed as part of the project. The third line works between Wirur and Manikgarh for a distance of 19.2 km has now been completed, giving a boost to the socio-economic development of this region out of the 43 km stretch that falls in Maharashtra. Manikgarh station, in particular, is an interchange point with the Central Railway and a junction for connecting several cement and coal sidings located near the station. The completion of this stretch's third line will relieve congestion for both freight and passenger trains. Gajanan Mallya, SCR General Manager, appreciated the entire team from both the Secunderabad Division and the Construction Organization for completing the tripling and electrification works.
