A Revanth Reddy, Chief Minister, Telangana, stated that he had urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to approve the Regional Ring Road (RRR) and the 'regional ring rail' to transform Hyderabad into a global city and support various state development projects, including the second phase of the Hyderabad metro rail. During an event to launch 'UNIKA,' the autobiography of former Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, Reddy mentioned that he had already requested the Prime Minister's cooperation in advancing Telangana's goal of becoming a USD one trillion economy.
Reddy added that 60 per cent of Telangana's income comes from Hyderabad and highlighted that he had sought the Union government's assistance in establishing a dry port in the state and in completing the Kazipet Railway Coach Factory as soon as possible.
Addressing the gathering, Reddy clarified that Telangana is not competing with Amaravati (the capital of Andhra Pradesh) but with global cities. He emphasized the need to compete with cities like New York and Tokyo and stated that to achieve this, all necessary permissions for the expansion of the Hyderabad metro rail must be secured.
He also mentioned that Prime Minister Modi was cooperating with the Tamil Nadu government, which is led by the DMK, to develop metro rail, and had approved a similar initiative for Bengaluru.
Reddy made an appeal to Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar and BRS leader Vinod Kumar, who were present at the event, urging them to collaborate for the development of Telangana. He emphasised that he had no differences with anyone and was open to meeting all stakeholders for the state's progress, seeking their cooperation.
The Chief Minister expressed hope that the Union Cabinet would approve the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project at its next meeting.
Reddy further commented on the state of universities, noting that many were on the brink of losing their relevance. He stressed the importance of encouraging political engagement among students, which he believed was necessary to restore the prestige of universities. He explained that university students had played a pivotal role during the Telangana movement, and their active political involvement had contributed to the formation of a separate Telangana state.
Regarding political party defections, Reddy identified the lack of ideological grounding as the primary cause. He pointed out that leaders were changing parties for personal gain, and that students who adhered to a party's ideology would remain loyal to it. He called for the revival of ideological student politics as a critical need for the state.
Finally, Reddy acknowledged the role of the opposition in highlighting the government's shortcomings. However, he expressed concern that the democratic spirit was being undermined, stating that his government had upheld democratic values, with no instances of expelling opposition members from the assembly since the Congress took power in December 2023.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Vidyasagar Rao, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, and Union Minister of State for 亚博体育官网首页 Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who also spoke during the ceremony.
