Titagarh wins Surat Metro鈥檚 72 Coach Rolling Stock Contract

In a regulatory filing, Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. stated that it had been given a contract worth Rs. 857 crore to provide 72 coaches (Package RS2) for the Surat Metro's Phase 1 project.

The Surat Metro Phase 1 project is a 40.35 km long metro rail project in Surat, Gujarat, India. The project consists of two corridors:

Corridor 1: Sarthana to Dream City (22 km)
Corridor 2: Bhesan to Saroli (18 km)

The project will have 38 stations, of which 20 will be on Corridor 1 and 18 will be on Corridor 2. The line will be elevated for its entire length, except for a 6.47 km underground section between Kapodra and Dream City.
The Surat Metro Phase 1 project is being implemented by the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC), a joint venture of the Government of Gujarat and the Government of India. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 12,000 crore.
Construction on the Surat Metro Phase 1 project began in 2020. The first section of the project, between Sarthana and Dream City, is expected to be completed in August 2024. The entire project is expected to be completed in 2027.
Titagarh anticipates beginning deliveries in 76 weeks and finishing the order in 132 weeks after that. In November 2021, the German KfW Development Bank invited offers for this vital system contract. In March 2022, technical bids were opened, and Titagarh Rail Systems (formerly Titagarh Wagons) was revealed as the sole bidder.
Following the 102 coach rolling stock contract for Pune Metro inked in August 2019, this is Titagarh's second significant order in India. In 2022, Titargarh will also produce 204 coaches for Bangalore Metro's rolling stock contract 4RS-DM thanks to a partnership with CRRC.
