The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has initiated trial runs on a key stretch of Metro Line 2B (Yellow Line), connecting Mandale to Mankhurd. The 5.3 km segment, part of the larger 23.6 km corridor from DN Nagar to Mandale, covers five stations: Diamond Garden, Shivaji Chowk, BSNL, Mankhurd, and Mandale.
The trial aims to evaluate the interaction between rolling stock and civil infrastructure, including the tracks, signalling systems, and communications-based train control (CBTC).
Tech-Heavy Tests Underway
In addition to civil checks, MMRDA is testing telecommunication systems, automatic fare collection mechanisms, and platform screen doors. Commercial operations will commence only after the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) gives the green light.
Mandale Depot Nears Completion
Supporting operations on this line will be the 72-rake capacity Mandale Depot—India’s largest metro depot—which is now 98% complete.
Industry Heads-Up:
For those interested in metro innovations, the 5th edition of InnoMetro, India’s top rail transit expo, is scheduled for May 2122, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam, Hall No. 4, New Delhi, featuring the latest in rail safety, infrastructure, and AI.
