Waltair Railway Division to Build 5.5-Km Flyover in Odisha

The Waltair railway division has received approval from the Railway Board for the construction of a 5.5-km flyover at the Singapur road junction near Rayagada, Odisha. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 2.4 billion, aims to improve traffic flow at the intersection of the Koraput-Rayagada railway line and the Vizianagaram-Raipur mainline. The junction currently experiences heavy train traffic, causing long delays. The new flyover is expected to reduce these delays significantly, benefiting both passenger and freight services. Once completed, the flyover will also enable the accommodation of an additional five passenger trains on the line, which currently handles 25 to 30 passenger trains daily. The flyover is expected to enhance connectivity between the Koraput-Rayagada-Singapur road junction, improving freight capacity, especially for transporting minerals and cement. The division is also modernising Parvathipuram and Bobbili railway stations with upgrades such as foot over bridges, lifts, parking facilities, and commercial complexes, set for completion within two years. Construction for the flyover is slated to begin in the next financial year, with completion expected by the end of 2027, according to Divisional Railway Manager Manoj Kumar Sahoo. (ET)
