Visakhapatnam Port Trust to develop Rs 103 cr cruise terminal

The Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) will set up a cruise terminal at the green channel in the port close to the Vedanta and Adani berths in August at a cost of Rs 103 crore.

VPT Chairman K Rama Mohana Rao told the media that the cruise terminal project would be taken up after the submission of the detailed project report (DPR) by IIT Madras.

Rao said the terminal would have a passenger gangway, lounge, customs and immigration building and recreation area, restrooms, duty-free shops, foreign currency exchange counters, and offices for tourism and travel operators.

Covered storage yards will be developed to reduce the pollution caused by ore in Visakhapatnam at a cost of Rs 36 crore and will be completed by June.

VPT stood third among major ports in India by handling 69.84 million tonne (mt) of cargo in 2020-21. The port earned an operating surplus of Rs 698 crore and a net surplus of Rs 306 crore.
