The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) told the media that about 76% of the work on the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL) project has been completed and plans to complete the remaining work by September 2023. The MMRDA is the implementing authority for the 21.8 km six-lane MTHL project. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is financing the project. After completion, it would be the longest sea bridge in India and would cater to 70,000 vehicles per day. Minister of Maharashtra Tourism and Environment, Aaditya Thackeray, visited the project site in the Sewri area and reviewed the progress of the project. According to a statement, the work of the MTHL project is in progress in three different phases. From the six interchanges of the MTHL at Sewri area, the work of the C-2, the ramp has been completed till the sub-base, the work of the 4 km of spreading till the deck slab of the original bridge from this access road, is also completed. Now the work of the 4 km spread of the C-2 access road of the original bridge is completed, the contractor can transport construction materials for the project from the access road to the original bridgework, which will speed up the construction pace. Previously, the temporary bridges and elevators were used for bridgework and inspection. According to MMRDA, this is a milestone project as it is possible to drive on the main bridge of MTHL on the roads of Mumbai.
